In the fall of 2008, our then President, Phyllis O. Burnett came up with an idea for a fund raiser that would benefit the KPTC and still involve the kids of our community.
We approached the School district to see if they would be interested in participating in this idea. Of course the idea was warmly welcomed and we were soon putting "water jug" size jars into each of the 6 buildings in the district. With the idea that all children in the district would donate their loose change into the jar, to help other children in need.
After approximately 2-3 months we picked up the jars to find that we had collected over $1,000.00 on our very first try! We then contacted the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation President, Joe Corace and invited him to a City Council Meeting in the late winter of 2009, where we would present him with the check with all participants present.
With a donation of this size, the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation , returned a gift to us. A Pediatric Trauma Kit . This kit contain medical supplies in youth size. (see photo below), this kit is a needed piece for our local Emergency Medical Services.
So we then donated the Kit to the Glen Cove EMS at the same meeting. We have another Ambulance, so the next years logical choice was to raise for another one. |
